Case Files

Shopify Website Portfolio & Case Studies

I could tell you what I do. I’d rather show you. Case Files is the Studio Von Terrible evidence room. A growing collection of Shopify websites, SEO work, branding, content, digital problem-solving and business transformations created for small businesses that deserved better online.

Every project starts somewhere different. Some businesses need a completely new Shopify website. Some arrive with a website that has outlived its usefulness. Some need stronger SEO, clearer content, better structure, more personality or a digital presence that finally reflects the quality of the business behind it.

Based on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Studio Von Terrible works with businesses locally, across Frankston, Melbourne, regional Victoria and beyond. The industries change. The size of the project changes. The objective stays the same: understand the business properly, identify what matters and build something the internet is far less likely to ignore.

Real Businesses. Real Website Projects.

These are not speculative concepts, fake brands or theme demos dressed up as client work. The Case Files document real small business website projects, Shopify builds, website redesigns, SEO work, content strategy and digital improvements created around genuine businesses with genuine customers and genuine commercial goals.

The interesting part of website design is not making a pretty homepage in isolation. It is working out how a real business should be structured online, what customers need to understand, what Google needs to understand, where the opportunities are and how all of those moving parts fit together without turning the website into a committee meeting.

Each project has its own constraints, priorities and strange little problems. Good. Those are usually my favourites.

Shopify Website Projects With a Business Behind Them

Every Shopify website in the Case Files was built for a specific business, not for a generic industry stereotype.

The platform provides the technical foundation. From there, website design, copywriting, content structure, customer journeys, search strategy, imagery and custom Shopify development are shaped around what the business needs.

Some projects need ecommerce. Some need bookings, enquiries, services, visitor information, campaigns, events, products, resources or several of those things at once. Some need a focused website with a small number of pages. Others need a much larger content structure with multiple landing pages and entry points.

The point is not to make every project look like Studio Von Terrible. The point is to make every project feel unmistakably like the business it belongs to.

Website Redesigns & Rebuilds

Not every Case File begins from scratch.

Some businesses already have a website, but the business has moved on without it. The branding has changed. Services have expanded. Mobile performance is poor. Content has become tangled. SEO foundations are missing. The website no longer explains the business clearly or gives customers an easy path through it.

A website redesign or Shopify rebuild starts by understanding what should be preserved as well as what needs to change. Existing content, rankings, customer behaviour, important URLs and useful functionality are considered before anything gets enthusiastically demolished.

If something works, I want to know. If something does not, I want to know why. Rebuilding for the pleasure of rebuilding is not a strategy.

SEO Built Into the Work

The Case Files are not only about design.

Search strategy sits underneath the website work too. Page structure, keyword research, copywriting, metadata, headings, internal linking, image optimisation, alt text, technical foundations and search intent are considered as part of building a website that search engines have a fighting chance of understanding.

For existing businesses, the work might also involve identifying missing content, strengthening important pages, improving local search relevance, protecting useful existing URLs or creating new landing pages around real search opportunities.

The visual result matters. So does whether anybody ever finds it.

Website Copywriting, Content & Structure

Many businesses do not arrive with perfectly written website content. Nor should they have to.

Studio Von Terrible projects often include website copywriting, content planning and page structure as part of the work. The business provides the knowledge. I turn that knowledge into content that explains what matters, answers the right questions and gives each page a clear purpose.

That content needs to work for people first, while still giving search engines enough context to understand the business. It should sound like the client, not like every other company in the industry has been sharing the same paragraph since 2007.

No generic filler. No keyword soup. No “we pride ourselves on delivering innovative solutions” unless somebody has been particularly badly behaved.

Small Business Website Examples With Different Jobs to Do

The businesses inside the Case Files are different because their websites need to be different.

A tourism business might need detailed visitor information, attractions, tickets, parties, events and search-friendly landing pages. A retailer might need strong Shopify product structure and ecommerce. A service business might need to establish expertise, explain complicated services and generate enquiries. A personal brand might need content, authority and a completely different visual language.

This is why I do not believe in squeezing every client through the same website formula. A website should be shaped around the job it needs to do.

The Case Files show the range of ways that strategy translates into real digital work.

Design, SEO, Content & Technical Work in One Place

One of the advantages of working with Studio Von Terrible is that the important parts of the project do not live in separate departments.

Website design, Shopify development, SEO, copywriting, content strategy and technical setup are considered together. A design decision might affect SEO. A search opportunity might justify a new page. A content problem might be a navigation problem. A technical limitation might change the best way to present something.

Keeping those decisions connected creates a more coherent website and considerably fewer emails beginning with “I’ll check with the developer”.

The Case File Is the Proof

A portfolio should do more than prove somebody knows how to use a design program.

I want the Case Files to show how the thinking changes from project to project. What the business needed. What was getting in the way. What was built. What changed. Where search opportunities appeared. How the website was structured. Why certain decisions were made.

That is the useful part of a case study. The finished screenshots are evidence. The reasoning explains why the result looks the way it does.

Because a good website is not a pile of attractive sections. It is a system of decisions designed around a business.

Small Business Projects From the Mornington Peninsula & Beyond

Studio Von Terrible is based on the Mornington Peninsula, with projects spanning local businesses, Frankston, Melbourne, regional Victoria and businesses further afield.

The Case Files include work across different industries, business models and project sizes. Some projects involve complete Shopify website design and development. Others focus more heavily on SEO, content, website growth or technical problem-solving.

The location changes. The villain remains suspiciously consistent.

Not a Portfolio. Evidence.

I do not want to tell you what I can do and hope you believe me.

I would rather let the work demonstrate the strategy, the attention to detail, the copy, the SEO thinking, the technical problem-solving and the slightly unreasonable amount of time I spend making sure something feels right.

So inspect the evidence. Open the files. Look at the businesses before and after. See what was built and why.

You arrive with a business you know is good. You leave with a business the internet notices.
