Designer, developer, strategist, copywriter, SEO obsessive, professional meddler and the person you will deal with from the first conversation until the job is done.

There is no account manager. No sales department. No mysterious developer three desks away. No enormous agency team appearing in photographs with laptops before quietly assigning your project to somebody you have never met.

One villain. One mission. One point of contact.

I Don’t Build Websites. I Adopt Businesses.

A website project makes considerably more sense once I understand the business behind it.

I want to know what you sell, what makes people choose you, what customers constantly ask, what makes you money, what you wish people understood, what is currently driving you mad and where you want the business to go next.

Then I start interfering.

That might lead to a new Shopify website. It might expose an SEO opportunity nobody has noticed. It might reveal that an important service deserves its own landing page, that the navigation makes no sense, that Google has been given almost nothing useful to work with or that the digital problem you thought required a complete rebuild needs something much smaller.

The website is not the business. It is one of the most useful tools the business owns. My job is to make the two understand each other.

From Dreamweaver to Digital Villainy

I did not arrive here because I woke up one morning and decided the internet needed another web design agency.

I started building websites when websites were considerably less civilised. Long before drag-and-drop page builders, AI-generated copy and platforms doing most of the unpleasant technical work for us, there was Dreamweaver, HTML, questionable design decisions and the useful requirement that if you wanted something to happen, you had to work out how to make it happen.

That curiosity never went away.

I still want to know why something works. Why it does not. Why a customer takes one path instead of another. Why Google understands one page and ignores another. Why one business feels memorable online while another with an equally good product disappears into a sea of perfectly acceptable beige.

Technology got better. The questions got more interesting.

Small Business Understands Small Business

Studio Von Terrible was built by somebody who has spent years running a real small business.

I know websites from both sides of the counter. I know what it means when a customer cannot find something, when an online process creates more work instead of less, when a platform decides to misbehave during the busiest week of the year, and when money spent on marketing needs to produce something more useful than a lovely presentation.

That experience changes how I approach digital work.

I am interested in what makes your day easier. What gets customers through the door. What creates enquiries. What sells. What answers questions before somebody needs to call you. What deserves to rank. What gives the business somewhere to grow next.

Small businesses do not need technology for the pleasure of owning technology. They need things that earn their place.

Why Shopify?

I specialise in Shopify websites for small businesses because I want clients to own a website they are still able to use after I leave.

Shopify provides a strong, maintained platform with an approachable backend, ecommerce capability, products, pages, content management and an enormous ecosystem of integrations. It gives me a solid technical foundation while leaving plenty of room for custom design and development where the project needs something more interesting.

More importantly, you are not trapped with me.

You should be able to update ordinary content, change a photograph, add a product or edit information without submitting a support ticket and waiting three business days for somebody to alter a sentence.

I am delighted when clients come back because they want me involved. I am considerably less interested in engineering a situation where they have no choice.

Design Is Only One Part of the Job

I care enormously about how a website looks. I care equally about what it says, how it works, how people move through it and whether anybody finds it.

That is why Studio Von Terrible brings website design, Shopify development, SEO, copywriting, content strategy and technical thinking into the same process.

A search opportunity might change the website structure. A customer question might deserve a new page. Copy might expose a navigation problem. An important piece of information might need a different design treatment. SEO might tell us that something buried inside another page deserves a place of its own.

Those decisions affect each other. Treating them as unrelated services makes little sense to me.

SEO Without the Smoke Machine

Google needs to understand what your business does before it has much reason to recommend it.

SEO is therefore part research, part structure, part content and part technical housekeeping. I look at the searches customers use, the intent behind them, what each page should be responsible for and whether the website gives search engines enough useful information to understand the business properly.

I do not promise number-one rankings. Nobody sensible does.

I do believe in giving Google better evidence. Clear pages. Useful information. Sensible website structure. Strong metadata. Internal links. Properly prepared images. Relevant content. Technical foundations that are not actively sabotaging everything else.

Beat Google at its own game by giving it something worth understanding.

I Have Strong Feelings About Beige

There are enough perfectly competent websites on the internet that nobody remembers five minutes after closing the tab.

I am not interested in adding another one.

Your business already has a personality. It has stories, customers, oddities, history, opinions, expertise and details your competitors do not possess. Those things belong in the digital experience.

That does not mean throwing animations at every available surface or making customers solve a riddle to find your phone number. Personality and usability are perfectly capable of occupying the same website.

The structure should be disciplined. The experience should be clear. Then we give it teeth.

Show Them Before They Know What They Want

A website should demonstrate what a business is capable of before somebody has finished reading the service list.

That philosophy applies to Studio Von Terrible too.

I do not want to spend twenty paragraphs telling you that I understand design, interaction, storytelling, copy, strategy and detail. I want you to experience those things while you are using this website.

The site is part portfolio, part demonstration and part evidence locker. If I have to tell you repeatedly that I make interesting websites while presenting the claim on an entirely forgettable one, something has gone terribly wrong.

Good Businesses Deserve Better Villains

Studio Von Terrible works best with businesses that are good at what they do and know there is more potential sitting underneath what they currently have online.

You might be a retailer, service business, tourism operator, attraction, creative business, professional service, ecommerce store or something considerably harder to put into a neat category.

You do not need to understand Shopify. You do not need to know what a canonical URL is. You do not need to arrive with keyword research, a sitemap and twelve pages of finished copy.

You bring the business.
