Good businesses deserve better villains.

Digital Villainy. Customer service included.

Hi, I'm Alicia.

Your friendly neighbourhood Digital Villain.

Web Designer.
SEO Enthusiast.
Shopify Specialist.
Technical Gremlin Exterminator.
Professional Overthinker.

No mission is too big. No task is too small.

If you’re looking for someone who’s moderately nerdy, mildly sarcastic and unreasonably invested in your business, you’ve come to the right place.

Yours evilly, Alicia Von Terrible, founder and Digital Villain behind Studio Von Terrible

digital villain

/DIJ-i-tuhl VIL-uhn/ noun
1.

A fiercely loyal digital accomplice, typically found championing small businesses, bending over backwards for the people behind them, thinking outside the box and obsessing over the tiniest details long after everyone else would have called it finished.

2.

Natural enemy of beige websites. Strongly opposed to scary agency jargon, unnecessary bullsh*t, technical gremlins and doing things a certain way simply because that’s how they’ve always been done.

3.

Oh, and not actually a villain. Quite the opposite. Incredibly caring, fiercely creative and entirely incapable of taking herself too seriously.

THE LIFE & TIMES OF STUDIO VON TERRIBLE

Built differently.
On purpose.

Studio Von Terrible exists because I love helping good businesses become impossible to ignore, building websites with personality and experiences people remember. My favourite part is uncovering what makes a business unique and turning it into something unmistakably yours. And I get an unreasonable amount of satisfaction watching a new website climb through the rankings and beat Google at its own game...

Because the internet doesn’t need another beige website.

Frequently asked questions

Before you ask

How long does a website usually take?

Most websites take around four to six weeks from the time everything is ready to begin. Larger projects, additional photography, copywriting or custom functionality naturally take a little longer. I’d rather get it right than rush it.

Do you only work with businesses on the Mornington Peninsula?

Not at all. I’m based on the Mornington Peninsula but work with businesses throughout Australia. The internet is surprisingly good at ignoring geography.

Will my website show up on Google?

Yes. Every website I build is designed to give your business the best possible chance of being found. I don’t simply make websites look good. I structure them so Google understands what your business does, who it’s for and why it deserves to be shown. From page titles and metadata to image optimisation, internal linking, Search Console and Analytics, it’s all taken care of from day one. Good rankings still take time and great content, but your website starts life on the right foot.

Why should I choose Studio Von Terrible?

When you work with me, you work directly with me from start to finish. No account managers. No handovers. No explaining your business to five different people. I take on a small number of projects so every website gets the attention it deserves.

How much do you charge?

The cost depends on the scope of the project. I build everything from complete websites to smaller updates, ongoing support and technical fixes. Larger projects are usually quoted with a fixed price, while smaller jobs are available on an hourly basis. For a better idea of what’s available, visit my Services pages or get in touch for a personalised quote.

Do you offer photography and branding too?

Yes. I regularly help with branding, photography, signage, illustrations, social media graphics and other digital bits and pieces. It’s often easier when one person ties everything together.

Do I need to supply all the content?

Most people don’t. I’ll help organise your ideas, write copy where needed and guide you through the rest. If writing about yourself isn’t your favourite pastime, you’re in good company.

Will I be able to update my website myself?

Absolutely. Shopify is designed to be easy to use, and once your website is finished, I’ll personally show you how to update text, images and other everyday content with confidence. You’ll have full control over your website, but if you’d rather leave something to me, or need extra pages, updates or support down the track, you know where to find your friendly neighbourhood Digital Villain.

Web Design, SEO & Digital Support From the Mornington Peninsula

Studio Von Terrible is an independent Mornington Peninsula web design and digital studio helping good businesses become considerably harder to ignore. Based in Mornington, Victoria, I work directly with business owners who want a website with personality, strong foundations and a reason for every page to exist.

I’m Alicia Von Terrible, web designer, web developer, Shopify specialist, SEO enthusiast, photographer, copywriter, graphic designer and resident technical gremlin exterminator. Studio Von Terrible brings those skills together so the website, words, imagery, search strategy and customer experience work as one connected business rather than a collection of things somebody remembered to upload.

I work with businesses across the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston, Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs, Phillip Island and Gippsland, as well as businesses throughout regional Victoria and Australia. Being based in Mornington gives me a particular fondness for local independent businesses, tourism operators, attractions, retailers, hospitality businesses and service businesses. Geography is no obstacle though. Much of the plotting happens perfectly well from The Lair.

Website Design Built Around the Business First

A good website starts long before choosing fonts and moving photographs around a screen. I want to understand what your business does, who its customers are, why they choose you, what they search for, where they get stuck and what makes the business worth remembering.

From there, the website gets a job. Its structure, navigation, content, photography, calls to action and search visibility should all help people find the business, understand it and take the next step. Whether I am working on an ecommerce website, a Shopify store or a service business website, the objective is not simply to make it look respectable. The website needs to make sense to customers, search engines and the people who will be running it after launch.

For ecommerce and service businesses needing a new site, my Shopify website design and development service explains how I approach complete website projects, including strategy, design, content, responsive and mobile-friendly development, customer journeys and the technical foundations underneath them.

I deliberately work with a small number of businesses at once. There is no account manager, mysterious development department or game of digital telephone. You deal directly with the person researching, designing, writing, building and obsessing over the details.

Built In. Not Bolted On.

I have never been particularly fond of the idea that the important parts of a website should appear later as a collection of mysterious extras. Proper hierarchy, search-aware content, metadata, image alt text, internal linking, responsive design, image optimisation, schema where appropriate and sensible technical foundations belong in the build from the beginning.

The same principle applies to smaller websites. A smaller Studio Von Terrible build is not a deliberately crippled version waiting for somebody to purchase the missing pieces later. It receives the same standard of thinking and workmanship. There is simply less website.

Behind the visible design I also pay attention to the things customers rarely think about until something goes wrong: mobile usability, page speed, site structure, crawlability, indexing, redirects, XML sitemaps and the technical SEO signals that help search engines understand what they are looking at. Not every project needs the same technical work, but every project deserves somebody paying attention.

Small Business SEO That Starts With Understanding What People Search For

Search visibility is part of the thinking from the beginning. That means researching how customers look for a business, understanding search intent, considering relevant long-tail keywords, building useful page structures, writing clear content and giving search engines enough context to understand what each page is about and who it is relevant to.

For local businesses, that also means thinking about local search rather than treating location as something to sprinkle into a footer. The relationship between the website, service areas, useful local content, structured information and a Google Business Profile all contributes to how clearly a business is understood online.

For businesses wanting a deeper investigation into organic search performance, rankings, keyword research, keyword mapping, competitors, SEO issues and content opportunities, small business SEO and search strategy has its own mission entirely. The homepage does not need to impersonate an SEO service page. It needs to make the relationship clear: websites built here are designed with search visibility in mind rather than treating Google as an awkward conversation for later.

Websites Designed to Keep Growing After Launch

Launching a website is not the end of its useful life. New services appear. Products change. Customers start asking different questions. Search behaviour shifts. A business develops new ideas, new markets and new reasons for people to find it.

That is why I think of every useful page as another doorway into a business. A well-planned service page, location page, landing page, product collection or useful piece of content creates another opportunity to answer a search, attract relevant organic traffic and introduce the business to somebody who might never have entered through the homepage.

Existing Studio Von Terrible clients and businesses with established websites can explore Website Growth for strategic new pages, content development, structural improvements, new search opportunities and the ongoing development of a website that already has good bones.

And for the assorted jobs that refuse to fit neatly into a package, there is Villain for Hire. Shopify support, website changes, technical problems, digital housekeeping, content updates, graphics and the peculiar little tasks that have been sitting on your list for six months are all fair game.

Local Web Designer. Considerably Longer Reach.

Looking for a web designer or web developer on the Mornington Peninsula does not necessarily mean you want the closest person with a laptop. You want someone who understands small business, listens properly and sees the website as part of a much larger customer journey.

Studio Von Terrible works locally across Mornington, the wider Mornington Peninsula and Frankston, through Melbourne and its south-eastern suburbs, and further into Phillip Island and Gippsland. I also work remotely with businesses throughout Victoria, including Ballarat, Bendigo, regional and country Victoria, and across Australia.

Different businesses also have different search territory. A Mornington Peninsula tourism business, a Frankston service business, a regional Victorian business and an ecommerce store selling Australia-wide should not all be handed the same digital recipe. Their customers search differently, their competitors are different and the opportunities available through local and organic search are different. Understanding that belongs in the strategy.

Local projects also have the advantage of putting me within striking distance with a camera. Where a project benefits from seeing the business in person, meeting the people behind it or photographing the place properly, leaving the Lair is permitted. I have paperwork.

One Person Looking at the Whole Digital Picture

Website design rarely lives in isolation. A beautiful website with weak content has a problem. Excellent photography attached to confusing navigation has a problem. Strong organic traffic leading to a page nobody trusts has a problem. A technically sound website nobody remembers is not exactly a triumph either.

My job is to look at how those pieces affect one another. Sometimes the mission needs website development. Sometimes it needs stronger copy, better photography, clearer customer journeys, search engine optimisation, graphic design, branding or technical cleanup. Sometimes it needs several of them working together.

That wider view is also why I care about what happens behind the screen. Search engines need clear information. Customers need useful navigation and content. Mobile visitors need pages that behave themselves on smaller devices. Business owners need systems they understand. A website needs to keep running smoothly after the ceremonial launch confetti has been vacuumed out of the server room.

You can see what happened when I applied that thinking to real businesses in the Studio Von Terrible Case Files, meet the mildly suspicious person behind all of this in The Lair, or explore the full collection of ways I help businesses under Work With Me.

Good Businesses Deserve Better Villains

Studio Von Terrible exists for business owners who care about what they have built and want somebody working beside them who gives a damn about it too.

Whether you are a small business on the Mornington Peninsula, an established Victorian business ready for a stronger online presence or an Australian business looking for a web designer and developer who thinks beyond the website itself, the principle is the same. Understand the business. Understand the customer. Find the opportunities. Make useful information easy to find. Make the experience memorable. Build everything properly. Keep looking for ways to make it better.

If that sounds suspiciously like what your business needs, send up the Villain Signal.
